As reported earlier today, Jonathan Tah is all set to be the first signing of the 2025-26 season for FC Barcelona.
Although the contract has not yet been signed, and the player will only be free to do so from 1 January, the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back has decided to join Barcelona.
The 28-year-old defender’s official move to the Catalan club will take place on 1 July, once his contract with the German club expires.
The news, initially broken by SPORT, has now been corroborated by Mundo Deportivo, with the two outlets reporting different lengths of Tah’s contract with the Blaugrana.
Indeed, the earlier report from SPORT suggested that Tah would be signing a three-year deal with an additional option for a fourth.

However, the update from MD suggests that the German international has agreed a five-year contract that will run until the summer of 2030.
Irrespective of that, MD adds that the player’s entourage no longer hides that Barcelona are in the ‘pole position’ to secure the signing of Tah next summer.
“Barcelona are in a great position,” they admit, although they emphasise that the player will not make his final decision until a few weeks from now.
It must be remembered that Deco travelled to Leverkusen to meet with Tah and his agent earlier this month.
During this meeting, they laid the foundations for the contract, which will see the German international sign up with Barcelona for five years, until June 2030.
With Tah’s arrival, Barcelona will secure another top-level centre-back on a free transfer. Following his signing, the first-team squad will have six centre-backs.
As a result, both Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia are likely to leave the club in the summer.
