Galatasaray vs Liverpool: Match Preview & Opposition View

Liverpool are currently out in Istanbul preparing for a huge night of European action as the Reds look to bring a positive result back to Anfield from the hostile Rams Park.

Arne Slot’s side were beaten 1-0 in Turkey during the league phase of the Champions League, and whilst a similar result wouldn’t be a catastrophe in the first leg of the last 16 clash, there will be hope for a more positive outcome.

Following more uncertain Premier League form, Liverpool were rewarded for the FA Cup triumph over Wolves with a trip to Manchester City in the quarter-finals, perhaps putting more focus on potential European success.

Ahead of the match, Slot was dealt a blow when Alisson Becker was unable to travel due to a minor hand issue and Federico Chiesa was also left on Merseyside having felt ill on Sunday night.

The Reds will also be without long-term absentees Alexanfer Isak, Conor Bradley and Giovani Leoni as they look to avenge the defeat late last year.

Ahead of the match, Dan spoke to Turkish Football Podcaster, Ahmet Bob Turgut, to get the view from Galatasaray…

How confident are you that Galatasaray can get a result? “Pretty Confident that Galatasaray will win this match at home with the help of the 12th man!”

What would be considered a good result for Galatasaray in this match with the second leg at Anfield? “Winning with 2 or 3 goals! 1-0 would not be good.”

Which Galatasaray player do you think Liverpool fans should be most worried about? “Victor Osimhen and Barış Alper Yılmaz.”

How should Galatasaray set up tactically against Liverpool’s pressing game? “4-5-1 or 4-4-1.”

Who wins the midfield battle: Galatasaray or Liverpool? “Galatasaray.”

Which Liverpool player worries you the most? “Mohamed Salah.”

Do you trust the game plan from Okan Buruk for a match like this? “I have some problem believing in Okan Buruk after what I saw against Juventus in the second leg match!”

Which set of fans is louder? Rams Park or Anfield? “Galatasaray!”

Score prediction? “I think Liverpool will score in this match … 2-1 Galatasaray.”

It certainly promises to be a difficult night’s work for The Reds, but any positive result would be a welcome one and would certainly make Slot’s side strong favourites.
