Gary Neville clarified that his manager of the season is Mikel Arteta after initially naming Daniel Farke, saying he had misunderstood the question and meant to recognise the Leeds United boss as most improved.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Farke has led Leeds to mathematical safety with three games to spare, they have since collected four points from two more fixtures and could reach 50 points by beating West Ham on Sunday.

That haul could lift Leeds as high as 10th, with 15th the lowest possible finish, and Farke’s side are unbeaten in eight, with only four defeats in their last 24 league matches since early December.

Even with that form, Farke was omitted from the official Premier League Manager of the Season shortlist, which featured six nominees without him.

Neville said he had treated the category as most improved, selecting Farke alongside player Matheus Nunes, and highlighted how Farke steadied Leeds after a winter spell when, in his view, the manager’s position looked vulnerable. He added that he thinks Arteta is manager of the year.

He has also praised what he sees as the league’s biggest turnaround, pointing to a formation switch at Manchester City in November and pivotal results, including a win over Chelsea and a draw with Liverpool, that he felt shifted momentum.
