Gaviões da Fiel met Memphis Depay on Tuesday night to clarify his recent absences and discuss his future at Corinthians. According to Meu Timao, the meeting took place at the Rosewood Hotel in São Paulo and was initiated by the forward.
During talks, Depay expressed a desire to extend his deal, which runs until 20 June and already allows a pre-contract elsewhere. The supporters’ group also backed his continued stay at the club. Supporters regard him as a key figure, particularly for the Copa Libertadores and Copa do Brasil, the club’s main objectives this season.
He has not played since late March, when he left injured against Flamengo in the eighth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. The forward suffered a grade two injury to the front of his right thigh. In April, a setback during fitness work at CT Joaquim Grava pushed back his return by at least two weeks.
Internal errors were cited for delaying his recovery, an issue said to have been corrected by Corinthians. He is in the final phase of rehabilitation and is expected to be available soon.
Off the pitch, Corinthians are seeking partners to help cover Depay’s salary costs. The player is open to discussing revised terms in a potential renewal and to taking a more active role in marketing. Fernando Diniz’s side are preparing to face Barra at 19:30 on Thursday at Neo Química Arena in the second leg of the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil without the forward.
