Genoa have dismissed head coach Patrick Vieira following a miserable start to their Serie A campaign that has seen the team fail to win any of their opening nine matches.

The Rossoblù sit bottom of the table after picking up just three points from three draws and six defeats.

Vieira took charge last November when Genoa were hovering just above the relegation zone. Under his guidance, the side managed to secure safety and finish 13th in the league.

However, this season’s performances have fallen far short of expectations, with only four goals scored in nine outings.

The club also announced that Roberto Murgita will step in as caretaker manager, assisted by Domenico Criscito.

Currently two points adrift of safety, Genoa will be hoping for a turnaround when they travel to face Sassuolo on Monday.
