Sacha Tavolieri has revealed that Gent are closing in on a deal to sign former Luton Town defender Daiki Hashioka. The Japanese full-back recently played in the Belgian Pro League for Sint Truiden, where he impressed during his spell at the club. He then moved to Luton Town in 2024 but last summer he left the club to join Slavia Prague, who will now sell him to Gent.
Hashioka was never able to replicate the form he had shown with Sint Truiden while playing for Luton Town. In three and a bit seasons with the Canaries he played 91 times, scoring twice and providing 11 assists. He only managed 28 appearances for Luton Town over two seasons, without any assists or goals. So far Hashioka has played 14 games for Slavia Prague since making the move from Luton Town last summer.
Gent will be hoping that Hashioka can rediscover the form he had shown at Sint Truiden as a marauding full-back. The Buffaloes are fifth in the Pro League table and are unbeaten in four as they look to cement a place in the top six and return to European football.
