Germany ‘to consider’ 2038 or 2042 World Cup bid | OneFootball

Absolut Fußball reports that the German Football Association is seriously considering a bid to host the 2038 or 2042 World Cup. Plans for potential hosting scenarios are being explored.

Rheinische Post reported in January that the centre-right CDU are driving the idea, seeking to send a message to authoritarian states after Qatar 2022 and Saudi Arabia securing 2034.

In November last year, DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said the federation could address the question in future and examine under what conditions an application would be conceivable. He noted that few associations can meet the demands of a 48-team tournament and expressed confidence in Germany’s infrastructure.

Germany’s successful staging of the 2024 EUROs has further stoked enthusiasm for a possible bid.

If Germany landed 2038 or 2042, it would be the country’s third World Cup, following 1974 and 2006.
