Benfica face fresh competition in their pursuit of Bernardo Silva. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Como 1907, Juventus and Napoli have entered the race, a development that could severely hinder Rui Costa’s bid to bring the Seixal graduate home.

Galatasaray are also tracking the Manchester City midfielder and are said to be willing to table a tempting proposal. Their involvement further narrows Benfica’s room to manoeuvre.

Silva has long expressed a desire to pull on the Benfica shirt again later in his career. Faced with attention from wealthier European clubs, that romantic return looks increasingly complicated. The dream may have to wait.

He is out of contract at Manchester City at the end of the season and will be free to decide his next move. Agent Jorge Mendes recently said it was still early to discuss the matter. Remaining at the top level of European football appears to be the player’s priority.

This season Silva, valued at 27 million euros, has made 28 appearances for City, 21 in the Premier League, five in the Champions League, one in the FA Cup and one in the League Cup. Across 1,924 minutes under Pep Guardiola, he has scored one goal and supplied two assists.
