Gianluca Prestianni thanked Benfica supporters after receiving a warm ovation on his return in the 2-1 win at Gil Vicente in Barcelos.
The 20-year-old featured for the first time since the alleged racism incident against Real Madrid two weeks earlier, and left the pitch shortly before Andreas Schjelderup hit the winner. According to Glorioso 1904, after full time he gave his shirt to a young fan.
He was the most applauded player at Estádio Cidade de Barcelos, where the Portugal women's team had beaten Finland.
Around midnight he posted on social media to thank all Benfica fans for their usual support, celebrated the three points, and shared a video of the moment in his stories.
He had missed the previous two Benfica matches for different reasons, sitting out the 3-0 home win over AFS SAD through yellow-card accumulation, then missing the Bernabéu second leg of the Champions League play-off after UEFA imposed a provisional one-game suspension, despite travelling to Madrid.
This season, valued at 12 million euros, he has made 31 appearances for Benfica, 19 in Liga Portugal Betclic, seven in the Champions League, two in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça, totalling 1,529 minutes with two goals and one assist.
