Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has appealed for reinforcements in the January transfer window, following a 1-0 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur.
“I think if you watched our game today, it’s pretty clear what we need,” said the manager. “And then it’s a decision of Crystal Palace.
“If you’re constantly underperforming in scoring goals, all I can do is encourage the players.”
It was Palace’s third defeat in a little over a week, after being thrashed in the league by Leeds United and knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Arsenal. It was also the Eagles’ third consecutive Premier League defeat, and second in a row at home.
With their squad depleted by injuries and AFCON, it is clear that Glasner wants to see new signings come through the door next month.
The German continued: “I don’t blame anyone for missing chances but we have to accept right now we have a lack of finishing quality.
“My feeling is that the closer we get to the goal, the more nervous we get with decision-making.
“We know this, we don’t have the players who are scoring regularly.”
On the match itself, Glasner reflected: “You have watched Crystal Palace longer than me, but I cannot remember a Crystal Palace side dominating a Tottenham side like we did today. Then leaving the pitch with a defeat makes it frustrating for all our players.
“I congratulated the players for all the effort until the last minute. Tottenham had the full week to prepare and we had just a few days.”
Ultimately, the only goal of the game came from a Tottenham corner. Glasner admitted: “It’s a performance where both teams I think should not lose the game.
“We created enough to score goals but we missed all our chances and get punished by a corner, a set-play.
“It showed exactly what we have to improve, we have conceded more than 50% from set-plays.
“You know that if you concede one you’re struggling to get back.
“I think this was their ninth goal from a corner this season. We knew about it, we wanted to avoid it but then it happened.”
