Having arrived at Roma in late January to replace Ryan as Svilar’s assistant, Pierlugi Gollini never found a place under Claudio Ranieri.
After Gasperini’s arrival, he slipped to the fringes of the squad.
In July, he didn’t train with the group and wasn’t even called up for Roma’s training camp in England, thus missing all of the summer friendlies.
According to Il Messaggero, Massara has tried to sell him several times.
First, Galatasaray showed interest, then a swap deal with AC Milan’s Sportiello (now at Atalanta) fell through.
The most concrete negotiation was with Cremonese.
By mid-July, Gollini had already reached an agreement and left for Cremona on a loan, but the deal fell through at the last minute due to salary disagreements.
He also missed out against Bologna and Pisa, and two nights ago, he was surprisingly included in the UEFA squad, unlike Vasquez.
The Venezuelan has been unconvincing and used only once in preseason. Now Gollini is a candidate to become Svilar’s second choice, and he will certainly be in the Europa League, starting with his debut on September 24th against Nice.
