According to Nosso Palestra, Palmeiras trained on Tuesday at the Academia de Futebol as they prepared to face Sporting Cristal in the Libertadores. The session included a tribute to captain Gustavo Gómez after his 400th appearance for the club.
The captain received a commemorative shirt to mark the landmark and expressed gratitude, crediting team-mates and staff for helping him reach it.
The squad worked on technical and tactical drills, including attack against defence exercises and small-sided games. Forward Vitor Roque trained fully as he continues his physical transition, while Paulinho, in reconditioning, completed the initial phase.
Palmeiras return to action on Thursday 16 at 19:00 at Allianz Parque in the second round of the group stage. They have one point in Group F after a 1-1 draw away to Junior Barranquilla.
The milestone places him 19th on the club’s all-time appearance list. With 54 Libertadores victories, he needs one more to draw level for fifth on the competition’s historical ranking, currently occupied by River Plate’s Franco Armani. He is also the club’s most decorated player with 13 titles, the highest-scoring defender on 45 goals, and the foreigner with the most outings.
Reflecting on Sunday’s 0-0 with Corinthians in the Brasileirão, Gómez said it felt bitter in context but part of the game, adding that the group aim to keep improving ahead of a decisive home tie where they need a win.
