Paris Saint-Germain have enjoyed a sensational start to the Luis Enrique era, with Les Parisiens winning a domestic treble and reaching the UEFA Champions League semifinals in their first season before doing one better in 2024-25 and winning their first-ever Champions League title following the loss of their all-time leading scorer Kylian Mbappé to Real Madrid.

They’ve done so thanks to the staunch support of Enrique’s tactical and personnel choices, with the Spanish manager proving why countless pundits like Derek Rae and Dave Johnson have heralded him amongst the game’s top technicians. PSG wasted no time whatsoever in jettisoning big-name veterans like Neymar, Marco Verratti, and Mauro Icardi in 2023, and when they proved that they weren’t a match for Enrique’s unique style of play, Manuel Ugarte, Milan Škriniar, and Randal Kolo Muani were quickly dispatched on loan or permanent deals.

Kolo Muani and Gonçalo Ramos joined in the summer of 2023 in view of Mbappé’s expiring contract, with the former joining for €75 million plus €15 million in potential bonuses, and Ramos arriving for €65 million plus up to €15 million in add-ons. But whilst Kolo Muani would last just 16 months in Paris before heading out on loan to Juventus, followed by another loan to Tottenham Hotspur, Ramos has emerged as a key figure in PSG’s attacking unit. And alongside the likes of Erling Haaland, Adam Buksa, Mateo Retegui, and Nick Woltemade, he’s one of the many European strikers who’ll be looking to lead his nation to victory in the final round of World Cup qualifiers.

Portugal has all but confirmed first place and automatic qualification, but they’ll be looking to guarantee their spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a win at Ireland before hosting Armenia, and they’ll be counting on Ramos to deliver the goods in attack and score his first international goal since March 23.
