Gosens makes Schalke debut as Džeko talks stall

Edin Džeko remains absent from Schalke’s pre-season as contract extension talks remain unresolved, while Robin Gosens made his debut in a 3-1 win over Fagiano Okayama.

Head coach Miron Muslić said no deal has been reached and, though he struck a positive tone, kicker reports the parties are still far apart despite a mutual wish to continue next season. The 40-year-old helped their promotion after a six-month spell.

Schalke fell behind inside the first 15 minutes, then turned it around through Hasan Kuruçay, captain Kenan Karaman and new signing Junior Adamu.

The match was played in Stubaital, Austria, after a week of training at the venue.

Gosens, on loan from Fiorentina and a former team-mate of Džeko, featured for the first time. Schalke face Regionalliga side KSV Hessen Kassel next week.
