Leeds United are stepping up midfield plans and, according to the Daily Mail, have held extensive talks with Hidemasa Morita over a free move to Elland Road.

That update contrasts with the Yorkshire Evening Post’s reporting via Graham Smyth, who previously dismissed the chatter, saying there was no interest and no talks.

Reports in Portugal in early May had suggested Leeds were poised to land the Japan international on a free.

Leeds have monitored the departing Sporting CP midfielder since last year, and the new contact indicates he remains under serious consideration.

Even so, the immediate focus is said to be Southampton’s Shea Charles, with competition from Manchester United for the £20 million player.
