Liverpool have been tipped to shake up their midfield options this summer.
Alexis Mac Allister is only under contract until 2028 and no negotiations exist over a new deal. If no accord is struck then Richard Hughes may listen to offers for the Argentina FIFA World Cup winner this summer.
Curtis Jones is out of contract in 2027 and to prevent the 25-year-old leaving on a free club bosses are prepared to let him join Inter Milan for around £26m.
And should one or both of those midfielders leave then Liverpool would require quantity - and quality - in the sector.
It will be very interesting to consider developments at Porto over the summer as Liverpool are watching the Portuguese champions with interest.
Firstly, it’s been reported in TEAMtalk that the outgoing Premier League champions are among the teams fighting to sign their title-winning midfielder Victor Froholdt.
The 20-year-old Denmark international only joined the Dragons from Copenhagen last summer but looks destined to move on soon.
“Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Brighton and Newcastle United are among the clubs closely monitoring the 20-year-old’s development,” the report reads.
Porto are well protected by a £70m release clause per the report and are preparing to move on with signing a replacement. The only problem for Andre Vilas-Boas’s side is that Liverpool are bang in the mix to sign the preferred candidate.
Caleb Yirenkyi is a long-term Liverpool target who is now on the radar for Porto to replace Froholdt. The FC Nordsjælland star is currently impressing at the World Cup with Ghana - scoring a goal in their opening-day win over Panama.
The 20-year-old’s future is expected to be sorted out once he returns to Denmark from North America - and we could see him end up on Merseyside alongside Froholdt.
