Grêmio have agreed to end midfielder Cuéllar’s contract, which had been due to run until the end of the year, after fewer than 30 appearances in a year at the club.

GZH reports that talks advanced in recent days and the remaining sums, including a signing-on fee, will be paid in instalments.

He played once in 2026 after 28 outings in 2025, having joined in early January 2025 as the club’s biggest signing.

After a spell out, he returned on Monday and trained as normal, having been excused from Thursday to Monday to recover from a virus.

There was irritation behind the scenes at his approach and a view he lacked the desire to improve day to day.

Grêmio also want to trim the squad, particularly foreign players. There are 13 and the CBF limit is 9, which could drop to 7.

Recent arrivals Juan Nardoni and Leonel Pérez further reduced his chances, and he has not convinced Luís Castro in training.

He started only once this year, the 1-0 defeat to São José in the second round of the Gauchão. He was unused against Avenida, Guarany de Bagé and in both meetings with Juventude, totalling 72 minutes in 2026.

He struggled last year with muscle injuries and has told people close that he blames a preparation error on arrival.

Grêmio also have talks over a departure for Cristaldo, with the interested club kept confidential.
