According to Gremistas.net, Grêmio have agreed the signing of goalkeeper Weverton, 38, from Palmeiras. He no longer had guaranteed starting status under Abel Ferreira.
With his deal in São Paulo running until December, Weverton spoke to the board and to Abel Ferreira to request a release to join Grêmio. The decorated club idol lost his starting place after a hand fissure that ruled him out of the 2025 Libertadores final.
Since then, Carlos Miguel, formerly of Corinthians and signed from Nottingham Forest, ended last season and began this one as first choice.
At Allianz Parque, Weverton was among Palmeiras’ highest earners and has been at the club since December 2017. Grêmio’s proposal includes a financial uplift and a three-year deal, different to the renewal model under evaluation at Palmeiras.
Weverton has not yet been announced. Grêmio have also added left-back Caio Paulista on loan from Palmeiras, plus forwards Tetê from Panathinaikos and José Enamorado from Junior Barranquilla.
