Grêmio were held 1-1 by Red Bull Bragantino at the Arena in the fifth round, a post-title homecoming that ended in boos. The draw stretched their winless run against Bragantino to seven and left them ninth after missing a G-4 spot.

According to Globo.com, frustration came down to finishing, fitness and depth. Expectations were high after the state crown and home wins over Botafogo and Atlético-MG, and jeers were later mixed with applause.

Carlos Vinicius ended a six-game drought with a header. The league’s top scorer then missed two clear chances, one in each half, and Enamorado, who supplied the assist, also failed when clean through. Rodriguinho equalised with a spectacular strike.

Grêmio tired, while Bragantino had enjoyed 15 days of training without matches. The hosts dipped after the break, forcing Luís Castro to turn to his bench.

Those changes exposed a thin reserve unit. Monsalve went off for Dodi, Gabriel Mec for Caio Paulista and Roger replaced Enamorado, but none made an impact.

With Arthur, Willian, Tetê and Amuzu missing, quality dropped, especially in midfield. Castro acknowledged physical frailty after Sunday and said some substitutes were short of peak condition, calling the draw fair.

They visit Chapecoense in four days, still without Arthur. Centre-back Gustavo Martins is also a likely absentee after finishing this match barely able to continue.
