After confirming coach Luis Castro, Grêmio have set out their early 2026 Gauchão approach, prioritising extra training time for the first team. According to Gremistas.net, youngsters will handle the opening fixtures while seniors build fitness.

With the Brasileirão due to begin on 28 January, the club plan to use academy players in the first two state rounds. The senior side are slated to debut in the third round against São Luiz at the Arena on 17 January.

The tentative schedule lists 10 January at Avenida and 14 January at home to São José with youth selections, then 17 January versus São Luiz for the main squad. Youth are earmarked again for 21 January away to Guarany de Bagé, before the first team face Internacional on 24 January.

Pre-season starts on two January, and the plan could be adjusted as Castro and his staff assess training. The intention is to give leading players at least 15 days of preparation.

Integrating academy talent is a central strand of Castro’s work for next year. During negotiations, he asked for freedom to take decisions involving youth players.
