Pep Guardiola says that he will make changes for our Carabao Cup clash against Huddersfield Town with an opportunity for Academy players to feature.

And he also gave an update on Erling Haaland ahead of City travelling to West Yorkshire on Wednesday night for our third round clash with the Terriers at 19.45 (UK).

Guardiola named an unchanged side for the third time, for Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal, following wins over Manchester United and Napoli at the Etihad.

It was only the third time during his time at City that he has done so, with the previous occasions in August 2021, and October four years earlier.

And the City boss said he will definitely make changes for Huddersfield although he confirmed that Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Omar Marmoush are not available yet.

“Tomorrow we are not going to play the same starting XI as the last three games, that’s for sure,” he said.

“I said many times in the Carabao Cup, we respect this competition, because we won it four times, but the problem is arriving to it with no injuries, but we arrive with injuries.

“So it’s a chance for Academy players to play.

“The priority is Burnley, Monaco and Brentford. It would have been perfect for Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait Nouri, Omar, but they are not able to play because they are injured.

“It is what it is. We will try to compete and go through.”

Guardiola also said that he hopes to have Haaland ready for the Premier League clash with Burnley on Saturday.

The City striker scored in our draw at  Arsenal at the weekend and the boss said he was struggling with a back injury in the second half.

Abdukodir Khusanov was also taken off at half-time of our draw with Arsenal on Sunday and replaced by Matheus Nunes.

“[Haaland was in] recovery yesterday, he didn’t train,” Guardiola said.

“Today I didn’t see him or the rest of the players yet but hopefully he can be [back] for the next weekend.”

On the schedule, he added: “It’s been such a demanding week, the last game especially and sometimes the players have problems. But I think we will be fine next weekend, I hope so.”
