Gustavo Gómez wants to continue at Palmeiras until close to the end of his career and does not see himself leaving soon.
According to Nosso Palestra, the Paraguay international has told people close to him and team-mates of his wish to remain with the Verdão. At 32, he is not ruling out a final return to Paraguay to retire.
Palmeiras aim to renew his deal during the 2026 season. His current contract runs to the end of 2027, and the board prefer not to leave an extension to the final year to avoid strain.
He is viewed internally as a cornerstone for the coming years. While any broader plan may be some way off, the club are not dismissing a career project to keep him until near retirement.
Gómez is the longest-serving member of the current squad and the most decorated player in the club’s 112-year history.
Over the past five years he has amassed 28,194 minutes for club and country in official matches, the most of any outfield player worldwide.
