Gustavo Henrique made his senior Santos debut in a 2-1 win over Novorizontino at Vila Belmiro in the opening round of the Campeonato Paulista. Diario Do Peixe reports that the midfielder was added to the first-team group for the state competition.
He came on in the second half with the score at 1-1 and played about half of the period. Thaciano later hit the winner.
Afterwards he said playing with the supporters was a huge pleasure, that it was a childhood dream and he has been at the club since he was 13. He thanked God and urged the team to push for more.
He was booked for a firm challenge in midfield but maintained his intensity to the end. He can also operate at right-back, a trait valued by the coaching staff.
Captain of the Under-20s, he left the Copinha to join the seniors at the start of the Paulistão and now returns to face Cuiabá in the knockout stage on Monday 12 at 17:30. This year's Copinha is his final youth competition as he will age out and remain available to the first team.
He joined Santos in 2018 after spells with Independente in 2015 and Corinthians in 2016. In 2025 he was a key figure for the Under-20s, starting the first two Copinha games, scoring once in five Paulista Under-20 matches and making 16 appearances in the Brasileiro Under-20. He is under contract until the end of 2028 and has been on Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s radar, named in squads for the Paulistão and the clássico against São Paulo in the Brasileirão in 2025.
