Erling Haaland delivered another masterclass in finishing as Manchester City stormed past Liverpool 4-0 at the Etihad, securing a record-extending eighth consecutive FA Cup semi-final appearance
The Norway striker’s treble was historic in multiple ways. It was his 12th hat-trick since joining City in July 2022, the most of any player in Europe’s big five leagues during that period, moving him one clear of Harry Kane
Haaland also became the first Manchester City player in 89 years to score a hat-trick against Liverpool, a feat last achieved by Eric Brook at Anfield in March 1937. This season alone, he has netted six goals in three games against Liverpool, twice as many as in his previous eight encounters with the Reds
It also made him only the ninth player in this century to score a hat-trick against Liverpool across all competitions, joining a very exclusive list.
Since his arrival, the 22-year-old has become synonymous with scoring bursts, turning City’s attacking prowess into something almost unstoppable. His 12 hat-tricks across all competitions are already setting records, and Saturday’s performance reinforced why he is considered one of the most prolific forwards in Europe
Beyond personal milestones, Haaland’s heroics secured City’s first FA Cup victory over Liverpool since 1973, extended their home winning streak in the competition to 18 matches, and underlined their bid for a fourth consecutive FA Cup final.
