Rennes, sixth in Ligue 1, have dismissed head coach Habib Beye one year into his tenure amid rising tensions.

Beye was told on Monday morning he had been relieved of his duties, along with assistants Olivier Saragaglia, Sébastien Bichard and Yann Cavezza, according to L'Équipe. Reserve coach Sébastien Tambouret took training in the afternoon while the club considers a successor.

The decision followed one point from 12 in the league and four defeats, against Lorient 0-2, at Monaco 0-4, at Marseille 0-3 in the Coupe de France round of 16, and at Lens 1-3. A month ago Rennes were two points off third, now the gap is 11.

For the board and shareholder Pinault family, Beye no longer projected positive energy or control. In Marseille he was involved in tense scenes with Samba and Mousa Al-Tamari. A turbulent end to the window and injuries, including Valentin Rongier’s, did not help, and tactical tweaks failed to halt the slide.

Those around Beye say he met targets, securing survival last season and remaining on track for Europe. They highlight his promotion of academy talent, the dip of some senior players and a lack of backing after the Samba incident at the Vélodrome over the second goal.

He leaves with a record of 39 matches, 18 wins, 14 defeats and seven draws. While he lifted Rennes at times, he did not leave a lasting imprint, particularly in their play, nor bring every senior figure with him.
