Newcastle’s Lewis Hall and Southampton’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis have earned their first England call-ups for November’s Nations League games with Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
Hall has been rewarded for an excellent start to the season with the 20-year-old earning plaudits for his performance in the 1-0 over Arsenal at the weekend.
There’s also a first inclusion for Harwood-Bellis in Lee Carsley’s final squad as interim manager. Harwood-Bellis captained the u-21 side to the European Championship under Carsley in 2023.
“Both players who have played a lot of minutes this season, showed they can play at a high level. I know them both really well,” Carsley said in a press conference to announce the squad.
“Taylor is a player who really deserves it, he’s a brilliant captain. Lewis has taken his time to settle in but has shown he can be consistent. He’s got a great left foot. It’s a good challenge to see if he can maintain that squad.”
Manchester City’s John Stones has been left out, though Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke has retained his place in the squad. Aaron Ramsdale returns in place of Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope. Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, who withdrew from October’s maiden call up to attend the birth of his first child, is back in the squad.
England face Greece on 14 November and the Republic of Ireland on 17 November, with the Three Lions currently second in the group.
