Three Lions’ captain gave hilarious post-match debrief after losing voice celebrating win at Estadio Azteca

Harry Kane said that losing his voice before his interview after England beat Mexico was the ‘perfect end to a perfect night’.

The Three Lions captain scored one of England’s three goals as they battled to a famous victory at the Estadio Azteca in the last-16 of the World Cup.

But Kane made headlines for another reason as he lost his voice celebrating the win, later wheezing and squeaking through a post-match interview with BBC Sport.

But in a new video shared to his social media pages, though, Kane reassured England fans that he had regained his voice and gave the match debrief he had not been able to the night previous.

“As you can hear, my voice is back,” he began, before chuckling: “I mean, what an all-timer of an interview that was. To see everyone having a good laugh about it all over social media, it was a perfect interview to end a perfect night.”

He went on, branding the match one of the most memorable in his 119-cap England career: “Going into that game was so special, the atmosphere, the stadium, everyone was so excited to be there and play in this iconic game.

“To come through the adversities during the game and battle the way we did, put our bodies on the line, the boys covering every blade of grass, its one of my favourite games in an England shirt without a doubt.”

England’s fans were in full voice at the Estadio Azteca despite being heavily outnumbered, while supporters back home took advantage of a one-off licensing law which allowed pubs to remain open until 5am on Monday to take in the action.

Kane made sure to acknowledge their contributions: “We knew the test, how tough it would be. Incredible night, we appreciate all the support. We had loads in the stadium, loads back home staying up late, so the connection with everyone is even stronger now and we feel that more than ever.

“We recover now, we calm down, have a couple days relaxing then get prepared for a massive quarter final.”
