Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane paid tribute to his former teammate Heung-Min Son after his departure from Tottenham.
Spurs played their first match since Son’s exit in a friendly against Bayern Munich, which they lost 4-0.
Kane and Son formed a deadly partnership at Spurs, assisting one another for 47 combined league goals during their time playing together.
And former Spurs striker Kane was full of praise for his close friend Son, who captained Tottenham to their first major trophy since 2008 last season by winning the Europa League.
“It’s a great way for his Tottenham career to end, lifting that trophy,” he said.
“Last year was very special for Son and that will be a moment he will cherish. Massive congratulations to him and for his career at Tottenham.
“First and foremost, he’s a great person.
“I got to know him really well as a friend. He’s just a really humble guy and he’s such a good guy.
“I think as a player we had one of the best partnerships, especially in Premier League history, we just had that connection.”
Current Spurs star James Maddison, meanwhile, has suffered an ACL injury and will miss the majority of the season.
Fellow Englishmen Kane says he is “gutted” for him.
“I spoke to him earlier and I am obviously gutted,” he said. “I loved Madders as a person and I love him as a player.
“It is so unfortunate for him to have that injury and then come back and do it again so just sending best wishes to him.
“You just have to stay strong and come back next year.”
Harry Kane is Tottenham’s all time leading goal scorer, hitting the back of the net 280 times for them and when asked about whether he still watches the club he grew up playing, he had only one word.
“Always.”
