After Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany had his interesting turn at a Champions League pre-match press conference on Tuesday, England legend Harry Kane took to the podium to answer questions. Kane prepares to square off against a London-based club at Bayern’s Allianz Arena for the second time since he joined the Bundesliga outfit two-plus years ago as Chelsea come to town.

Bayern welcomed Kane’s former fierce London rivals Arsenal to the Allianz for the second leg of a Champions League quarterfinal playoff on April 17th, 2024. Thomas Tuchel’s FCB won the day in that instance, eliminating the Gunners 3:2 on aggregate via a 1-0 home victory.

Chelsea and Kane’s Tottenham naturally weren’t as fierce of a rivalry, but Kane was questioned about his feelings on hosting Chelsea regardless. A reporter asked Kane if he wished to “hurtChelsea. Kane’s response didn’t suggest he wished to do that, but is overall demeanor conveyed excitement.

Yeah I think that the rivalry we had was a good rivalry especially during my early career at Tottenham during the Pochettino Era,” Kane said. “We had a lot of tough games, good games against each other. I think playing against Premier League opposition brings a little more expectation towards the game.

Maybe the Chelsea fans don’t like me as much and when we play against Arsenal maybe the Arsenal fans don’t like me as much,” Kane continued. “But that makes me want to play better. That motivates me.

“There’s going to be some familiar faces that I’ve played against, some of whom I’ve played together with England,” Kane concluded. “I think it’s something special to have an English team here at the Allianz and we’ll try to stamp our authority on the game as a team.”
