Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane scored his 48th, 49th and 50th Bundesliga goals during Friday night's 3-0 victory over Augsburg, becoming the fastest ever player to reach the milestone.
Kane may have so far somehow failed to break his career trophy duck since moving to Munich in the summer of 2023, but his goalscoring in Germany has been supercharged.
The England captain scored 44 goals in 45 games across all competitions last season, with 36 of those coming in just 32 Bundesliga appearances. It smashed his previous best tally from his Premier League days, which was 30 in 37 games for Tottenham Hotspur in 2017/18.
Now, with 14 to his name only ten Bundesliga games into 2024/25, Kane has hit the half-century mark in league competition in less than one and a half seasons at Bayern.
Due to the incredibly short timeframe, those 50 goals have come in only 43 appearances, which is the fastest that anyone in Bundesliga history has reached the milestone. Erling Haaland was the previous record holder, from his time at Borussia Dortmund, but took seven games more to reach the tally.
At Kane's current rate of scoring, Robert Lewandowski's single season Bundesliga record of 41 goals, set during the 2020/21 campaign, is under serious threat.
Bayern are sitting pretty at the top of the table, eight points clear of RB Leipzig as of Saturday morning – the challengers travel to Hoffenheim and have the chance to cut the gap to five.
Reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen, who broke Bayern's longstanding dominance last season to deny Kane the trophy that had appeared a given at the time of his move from Tottenham, are struggling to keep pace after drawing half of their opening ten fixtures.
Despite his huge numbers, Kane has had to battle through stinging criticism this season. When Bayern drew with Leverkusen at the end of September and followed it up with a surprising Champions League defeat against Aston Villa as October began, the 31-year-old was slated by the German media for his minimal impact across the two significant games.
