Florian Wirtz made the move to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for a whopping £116m last summer, but the German struggled mightily to find his footing at Anfield.
After proving to be one of the best up-and-coming creative players in Europe under Xabi Alonso in Leverkusen, plenty of pressure was dumped on his shoulders upon moving to the Premier League.
While Wirtz provided just three assists in 33 Premier League matches in the 2025/26 campaign, he may have just rediscovered his form at the World Cup this summer.
The 23-year-old has been tasked with being one of the chief creators in Julian Nagelsmann's Germany midfield, and he has already provided two assists in the three group games so far.
Wirtz played service-man for Leroy Sané's opener against Ecuador this evening, pulling him to within one assist of equalising his tally for the entire Premier League campaign!
With Germany headed for the knockout rounds, he could continue to etch his name into the scoresheet with regularity.
Shackles off after Arne Slot? Perhaps so.
