Vardy joined Leicester from then non-league side Fleetwood Town for a fee of just £1 million in May 2012, and he went on to win the Premier League title, the FA Cup, the Community Shield and two Championship titles during his 13-year spell at the club, as well as featuring in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.

The 39-year-old scored his 200th goal in his 500th and final appearance for the Foxes in the 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town in May before departing at the end of his contract having achieved club legend status at the King Power Stadium.

Vardy was linked with a host of clubs after leaving Leicester, including the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United, Leeds United, Burnley, Manchester United, Rangers, Wrexham and Birmingham City, but he made a surprise move to Italy with newly-promoted Serie A side Cremonese.

However, as the Foxes continue to struggle after losing their talisman, there are many supporters who would no doubt love to see him make a return to the East Midlands one day.

Leicester City supporters will be hoping for emotional Jamie Vardy return amid Championship plight

Despite having Vardy in the team, Leicester were relegated from the Premier League last season with a dismal total of just 25 points.

After parting company with Ruud van Nistelrooy, the Foxes appointed Marti Cifuentes as their new manager in the summer, but the Spaniard was sacked last month after an inconsistent run of form saw his side slide away from the play-off places and into mid-table.

However, just over a week after Cifuentes' exit, Leicester were hit with a six-point deduction for breaching the EFL's Profit and Sustainability Rules, and after losing all of caretaker manager Andy King's three league games in charge, they have been dragged firmly into the Championship relegation battle.

With no permanent manager in place and discontent towards the board increasing, Foxes supporters will be longing for the glory days during Vardy's time at the club, and it is fair to say that they could certainly benefit from a striker of his pedigree.

Leicester's forwards have failed to deliver since Vardy's departure, with Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka both unable to get on the scoresheet regularly, and after Julian Carranza's loan deal was cut short in January, they will be hoping that Chelsea loanee Dujuan Richards will fare better.

While Vardy is entering the latter stages of his career, some Foxes fans will still hope to see him back at the King Power Stadium before he hangs up his boots.

Vardy has certainly experienced a lot during his eventful career, but despite his rapid rise up the football pyramid, he has never plied his trade in League One.

After being released by Sheffield Wednesday, Vardy had spells in regional football with Stocksbridge Park Steels and Halifax Town before making a name for himself at Fleetwood Town.

Vardy scored a stunning 34 goals and provided 17 assists in 40 appearances in all competitions in the 2011-12 season to help the Cod Army to the Conference title, and his impressive exploits earned him his seven-figure move to Leicester.

It was a tough first season at the King Power Stadium for Vardy as he scored just five goals, but rather than sending him out on loan, the Foxes kept faith with the striker, and that decision was emphatically rewarded when his goals fired them to the Premier League title in 2016.

Vardy has made a strong start to life in Italy with Cremonese, proving he still has the ability to perform at the highest level, but it is uncertain whether the option to extend his contract beyond this season will be activated, with Serie A survival believed to be one of the key conditions.

With Vardy estimated to be on a weekly salary of £30,710 at Cremonese, there are big question marks over whether Leicester would be able to afford his wages amid their current financial predicament, but if they were to be relegated, he may be tempted by a new adventure in League One to end his career.
