QPR have enjoyed an improved start to the season so far.

Championship clubs are just five league games into the campaign, but for QPR there have been noticeable improvements on the pitch already.

Last season, the R's flirted with relegation for the most part, but Marti Cifuentes managed to steady the ship and lead them six points clear of the drop zone.

It was a disappointing campaign overall, but QPR fans were strangely left feeling very excited for the season ahead. Unfortunately, Gareth Ainsworth was taking the club down a dangerous path, but Cifuentes was appointed in late October of last year and began to implement his fresh ideas.

Despite the club not finishing as high as they would have wanted last season, there was a lot of optimism about the Marti Cifuentes era. This summer, the Spaniard was able have his first full pre season with the squad and bring in his own signings, which has clearly paid off.

QPR have lost just one of their first five league games, having drawn three of them and picked up one win, which came away to recently relegated Luton Town thanks to a Michael Frey masterclass.

The Hoops are looking far more comfortable than last season, and that is largely down to Cifuentes.

Football League World spoke to QPR fan, Louis Moir, this week, who was full of praise for his club's manager and has high hopes of a successful career for the Spaniard.

"100%, Marti is the man to get us challenging again. If he doesn't do it with us this season or next, I think he'll probably be managing at a high level or at a bigger club, because you can't really see him staying around for too long, depending on what happens with us, because of how good he is."

"Now we've obviously got a clear plan, and you're seeing with the way we're playing, we've got a clear way of wanting to play football and bringing an identity back to the club."

"You can just see since he's come in, the job he has done has been brilliant and now with us building the squad that he wants, getting in players that I presume he's had a big say in, if it all gels, who knows what we can do this season?"

"Everything about him really, the way he wants to play football, the way he speaks, the amount of knowledge he has is really brilliant. Like I said, I'm really confident that he is the man that can get us challenging, if not more, in terms of promotion."

"You can only see him doing good things with us and then moving on to a bigger club, or unfortunately he could get snapped up by someone else. His career is only on an upward spiral, and I'm sure he's going to be a very, very good manager for the rest of the time he has with us and in the future too."

QPR are lucky to have Marti Cifuentes in their dugout

There is a real belief that Cifuentes can take QPR to the next level. Whether that is promotion or simply competing in the top half of the Championship, time will tell, but there has certainly been some real improvement at Loftus Road since his appointment last year.

QPR have picked up some hard-earned points in the early stages of the season. They were 2-0 down away to Sheffield United and came back to make it 2-2. More recently they travelled to the other side of Sheffield, for a clash with the Owls, and despite conceding a 93rd minute goal to go 1-0 down, youngster Alfie Lloyd scored six minutes into injury time to give the sides a share of the spoils.

A real sense of character has been on display under Cifuentes, and if they can turn some of these draws into wins, they can be a real handful this season. QPR have some threatening forwards in their squad, and they still await the return of Ilias Chair, so there is every reason to be excited.
