Malo Gusto looks like he will be a key player under Liam Rosenior, and the new coach has said as much.

But it’s been a slow start – illness and injury meant that the Frenchman’s game against Pafos this week was his first for the new manager.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the full back explained a little about Rosenior told him to play during that match, which saw Gusto at right back, inverted into an attacking midfield role at time.

“He said to me to be a bit more free on the pitch, to change more my position during the game,” Gusto explained.

“Sometimes I can go in the pocket, sometimes I can go wide, but it’s more or less the same way to play which is good because it means there haven’t been a lot of changes for us.

“I like to attack, of course, that’s my type of game. I’m really enjoying playing this system and being more free. Now it’s a matter of keeping improving to help the team as much as possible.”

The inverting full backs was a feature of Enzo Maresca’s system which fans didn’t love – but it seems like they’re going to have to get used to it, as Rosenior likes it too. We’ve seen Gusto and Jorrel Hato on the other side both in that sort of role.
