Heidel “very relaxed” about Nadiem Amiri future as star midfielder casts doubt on Mainz stay | OneFootball

Nadiem Amiri left his future at Mainz 05 open following the club’s 2-0 win over 1. FC Heidenheim at the weekend.

“I really don’t know,” Amiri told Sky when asked about a possible summer transfers, adding that he wanted to sit down with his family and his agent “on holiday and decide together”.

When asked about Amiri’s comments by Kicker, Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel did not appear overly concerned, but said the midfielder should have included the club in the equation.

“I’m not angry with him, but he forgot one thing in that moment: we are the most important party, but we are very relaxed,” Heidel said.

A quick decision is not expected. If Amiri is included in Germany’s World Cup squad and plays a role there, it could influence his market value.

“Because of the World Cup, everything will be pushed back a bit, but we don’t need to be afraid because, in the end, we decide ourselves. I’m also curious to see what happens,” the Mainz boss added.

In addition to Amiri, other key players such as Kaishu Sano and Paul Nebel have also been linked with moves away, but Heidel insists he remains in control of their futures.

“We have control over everything. That means we can decide whether a player leaves the club or not. We’ll see how things develop,” he said.

Amiri's contract with Mainz expires in 2028.
