Fabrizio Romano Confirms Liverpool’s Plans to Sign South American Wonderkid

Just one game remains of Liverpool’s season and attention is starting to turn onto their summer transfer plans.

The Reds have already wrapped up one signing with Jeremy Jacquet joining from Rennes in a deal worth in the region of £60m.

He is expected to play a big part in Liverpool’s short and long-term future.

However, Liverpool are now on the verge of wrapping up a deal very much for the long-term future of the club.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool are on the verge of signing Atletico Nacional midfielder Samuel Martinez. The 17-year-old will join on a five year deal once he turns 18.

Posting on X, he said: “Liverpool agree deal to sign Samuel Martinez from Atletico Nacional, here we go!”

“Deal in place for 17 year old Colombian talent to join in 2027, as soon as he turns 18.”

“#LFC anticipate Borussia Dortmund, as @PSierraR revealed. Agreement closed.”

Martinez’s Impressive Stats

Liverpool look to have secured an absolute gem of a player. Journalist Bence Bocsak took to X to reveal some of the impressive stats behind the teenager’s performances over in South America.

“Samuel Martinez averaged 7.23 dribbles per 90 minutes at the U17 CONMEBOL and completed 62.5% of his attempts,” Bocsak said.

“He also averaged 3.25 progressive runs per 90 – the 2nd highest among midfielders.”

“He’s a brilliant ball carrier. Works a ton off the ball, too. And covers a lot of ground.”

“Liverpool are getting a gem of a midfielder.”

Martinez has been capped by Colombia’s Under-17 squad on six occasions and is incredibly highly rated in South America.

A number of other big European clubs were reportedly eyeing a move. Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund are just a few of those.

Of course, it’s not quite the marquee signing that Liverpool supporters have become used to. But it could be a huge move when we look back in years to come.
