‘He’s created a near-perfect team’ – PSG’s Luis Enrique full of praise for Liverpool manager Arne Slot | OneFootball

Arne Slot had big shoes to fill at Liverpool when he replaced Jürgen Klopp as manager at the start of the season. However, the Dutchman has excelled since taking the role. The Merseyside club are currently 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League (albeit having played one game more), whilst they also finished top of the table in the revamped UEFA Champions League ‘League Phase’.

Having skipped the play-off round, Liverpool have nonetheless been given a tough draw. They will come up against a Paris Saint-Germain side that are unbeaten domestically this year, whilst their last defeat in any competition was four months ago. Speaking ahead of Wendesday night’s encounter at the Parc des Princes, PSG manager Luis Enrique took the chance to praise his opposite number.

“Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe in recent years,” began the Spaniard, going on to reference Liverpool’s Champions League victory back in 2019. “Arne Slot’s work… it could have been difficult to improve on the work done by Jürgen Klopp but he has created a near-perfect team. That motivates us too to show that we are at the level,” added the PSG manager.

Against PSG, Slot will be looking to continue his good record against French sides. The Dutchman has never lost against a Ligue 1 side, although, equally, he has never won a game on French soil.
