Elijah Adebayo is set to miss the remainder of the campaign with a hip issue

Luton Town are one of several clubs in the mix for a play-off place in League One this season.

Jack Wilshere’s side are only five points adrift of the top six with just seven fixtures remaining in the campaign.

The Hatters are seeking an immediate return to the Championship after suffering a second straight relegation in a row in 2025, having come 18th in the Premier League in 2024.

This is Wilshere’s first role in management, with the former midfielder taking on the role after Matt Bloomfield was dismissed in September.

But the club suffered a major setback with the confirmation that Elijah Adebayo will be absent for the remainder of the League One campaign.

The forward just made his return to action in the last couple of weeks, making two substitute appearances after almost a year out through an ACL injury, but a fresh hip problem has him back on the sidelines.

Adebayo has issued a message following confirmation that he will be back on the sidelines for the next while due to this hip issue.

The forward has posted to social media thanking the fans for the support they showed when he made his return to the Luton side earlier this month, expressing his frustration that he can’t help the team in their promotion push.

“I’m not even sure what to say,” wrote Adebayo, via Instagram.

“Having the feeling of being back and having it taken away, not being able to help on the pitch is devastating.

“Seeing all your faces and hearing that song again felt so special to me, please stick together and with the staff and the players we need you.

“Thank you for all the words of support!

“I’ll be back with his grace!”

Arsenal forward Eberechi Eze responded with a heart emoji to show his support to the Luton star.

The pair played together for a brief period when they were both in the Fulham academy system, with the 27-year-old now in contention to win his first Premier League title.

Eze ended up at QPR before making his big breakthrough in senior football, where he earned a move to Crystal Palace.

During his time at Selhurst Park, he cemented himself as a top Premier League talent, winning the FA Cup in 2025 before signing for Arsenal in a deal worth an initial £60 million.

Meanwhile, Adebayo departed Fulham in 2019 after a number of loan stints, having been unable to make it in their first team plans.

The 28-year-old joined Luton in 2021 from Walsall, where he proved a pivotal figure in their promotion to the Premier League in 2023.

However, it has been a difficult couple of years since, particularly with injuries now limiting him to just two appearances this season in League One.

Elijah Adebayo injury is a real setback for player and club

Adebayo could’ve been a very useful asset to have coming back to fitness for the final weeks of the season.

But this hip injury has put him back on the sidelines, and that is a real blow for both him and the club.

The message from the likes of Eze is a nice consolation, and shows that they are still friendly all these years after their time together at Fulham.

But Adebayo would much rather be available for selection and out on the pitch helping Luton fight for promotion out of League One, so it will be massively frustrating to get injured right after coming back into the team.
