Bayern have the momentum back on their side when it comes to the fixture against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The Werkself have caused problems for the Munich men in the recent past, going six games unbeaten against the record champions, but the last three have all gone the way of FCB. What’s more, since the – admittedly bitter – 1-0 loss in the DFB Cup last 16 in December 2024, Vincent Kompany’s men have not conceded a single goal against the Rhinelanders. Leverkusen have never had a longer goalless run against one team at professional level – but Bayern would like to extend it on Saturday. We’ve compiled the rest of the important facts and figures around the match for you here.
Bayer 04 went two entire seasons without an away defeat in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 campaigns, setting a new Bundesliga record. At the moment, though, it’s Bayern who have gone the longest without losing on their travels. The Reds are unbeaten in 21 away league matches (W16, D5) – only between 1985 and 1987 (26 games) and from 2012 to 2014 (33) did they manage a longer run of this kind. If it continues, FCB could end a season without an away defeat for the third time after 1986/87 and 2012/13. Aside from Bayern and Leverkusen, no other club have achieved this feat in the history of the German top flight.
With 66 points after 25 matchdays, Kompany’s charges are playing the joint second-best Bundesliga campaign in the club’s history (same as 2012/13) – only in the 2013/14 season did Bayern have more points at this stage (71). The upcoming opponents are the only other team to have ever hit such heights: in their title-winning 2023/24 season, the Werkself had 67 points on the board after 25 games.
In the 4-1 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach last Friday, Bayern netted three or more goals for the 20th time already in the Bundesliga this season – only last year did they top that figure (22 times). The Munich men are also on course for a record for the total number of goals in a season, with the current tally of 92 after 25 games having never previously been reached. Slowly but surely, Bayern’s 54-year-old record of 101 goals from the 1971/72 campaign is coming within reach – and there’s still a good quarter of the season left to play.
Although: scoring goals in Leverkusen is far from easy. Kasper Hjulmand’s side have only let in 11 goals at home this season, which is a joint league best with Borussia Dortmund.
There’s another statistic that should give Bayern encouragement ahead of the clash with sixth-placed Leverkusen. The defending champions have won all eight of their games against other clubs from the upper third of the table this season – and by an aggregate score of 33-6. In fact, the Bavarians’ average goals of 4.1 per game against fellow top sides is higher than it is against the rest of the Bundesliga (3.5). Bayer 04, in contrast, have lost five of their six meetings against top-six rivals this season, including all the home games. The only exception was the 3-1 victory at RB Leipzig shortly before Christmas.
The fact that Bayern played their home game against Gladbach without Harry Kane and Michael Olise was quickly forgotten thanks to Luis Díaz. The Colombian scored the first goal and set up the second, racking up his 24th and 25th goal involvements in his 24th Bundesliga appearance. Since detailed data collection began in 2004, only Kane (14) and Erling Haaland (22) have reached 25 goal contributions in fewer games. With 14 goals now, the 29-year-old has also already surpassed his personal best from the Premier League last season (13).
Bayern’s sensational attacking trio could be reunited against Leverkusen. In Kane (35), Olise (26) and Díaz (25), Bayern have three players with 25 or more goal contributions in this Bundesliga season – that’s never happened before since detailed data collection. In fact, in Europe’s top five leagues, only two other players have been directly involved in at least 25 goals in 2025/26: Haaland (29) and Kylian Mbappé (27).
Summer signing Jonathan Tah returns to Leverkusen for the first time. The centre-back made 402 competitive appearances for the Werkself from 2015 to 2025 – and with great success. Tah has not lost any of his last 42 away matches in the Bundesliga, a league record, with 32 of those in a Leverkusen shirt. His last loss on opposition territory came at Bochum in May 2023.
