Coming off the bench in the second half with around 20 minutes remaining, the 28 year-old forward converted a late penalty to seal an all-important 2-1 win for his new side.

After the match, while the Celtic squad headed up the Rugby Park tunnel, kitman Wright greeted Iheanacho with a kiss on the forehead as spotted by the eagle-eyed @CelticCurio – of this parish – on X.

Wright has drawn media attention in the past, particularly when Brendan Rodgers was left furious after he was offering Paulo Bernardo penalty tips prior to Celtic’s dramatic Scottish Cup penalty-shootout victory over Aberdeen in 2024.

Addressing the situation a week later, Rodgers said: “I don’t like a kitman near them. Stevie got a wee bit of a blast from me, didn’t he? Bless him. He’s a good guy, Stevie, he’s Celtic-daft, he’s Celtic-mad, but you’ve got to know your place.”

Meanwhile, Chris Sutton singled out two of Celtic’s new Bhoys following a decisive three points at Rugby Park.

Sutton took to X to highlight Sebastian Tounekti and Iheanacho’s impact while wondering how things could have turned out had they been signed before the Champions League two-legged play-off against Kairat Almaty.

“What a start to his Celtic career by Kelechi Iheanacho,” Sutton said. “Cool penalty to win it in injury time.”

“Tounekti excellent and begs the question what if he’d have been signed pre Champions League. Kilmarnock brave display. Stunning header from Watson to level it. Celtic back top.”

Celtic return to action this Sunday when they make the short trip to face Partick Thistle in the Premier Sports League Cup quarter-final.

Rodgers’ side kick-off their European campaign a week tomorrow with a tough away outing against Red Star Belgrade in Serbia. Hibs at Celtic Park follows Belgrade in what will be the Hoops’ first home outing in over a month.

That will also be the first chance for the home support to make their collective voice heard towards those in the heated seats in Celtic’s Directors box. That should be interesting, particularly if the boardroom silence since that awful statement and the so-called Celtic Insider briefing against Brendan Rodgers in the Sun newspaper.
