Chelsea are looking to bounce back from last weekend’s shocking Premier League defeat as they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the EFL Cup fourth round.
The Blues are one of several Premier League giants looking to book a spot in the Carabao Cup quarter finals and will fancy their chances against relegation-battling Wolves.
Enzo Maresca’s troops were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline over the weekend as Chelsea lost to newly promoted surprise package Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.
The West Londoners will be keen to get back to winning ways on Wednesday night, especially with a place in the League Cup quarter finals up for grabs.
The last time Chelsea visited Molineux Stadium, Maresca’s side ran riot, picking up a comfortable 6-2 win. The Blues also put six unreplied goals past Wolves the last time they met in this competition.
As has become customary, Maresca is expected to make sweeping changes to the starting line-up that lost against Sunderland.
Looking to freshen up the team, the Italian should recall second-choice goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen in goal despite his shaky performances in recent games.
Malo Gusto is back from suspension and should step in for captain Reece James at right back, lining up alongside Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, and Jorell Hato in defence.
Maresca confirmed in his pre-match press conference that a few players need to be rested for their own protection.
Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are among those who could do with a breather, so the midfield duo should be replaced by Romeo Lavia and Andrey Santos.
Up front, Jamie Gittens should come in for Alejandro Garnacho, who got his first Premier League goal against Sunderland.
Facundo Buonanotte should slot into the number 10 role while Estevao gets the nod on the right flank ahead of Pedro Neto.
Marc Guiu made his first Premier League start for Chelsea last weekend but should return to the bench in favour of academy graduate Tyrique George for tonight’s cup clash.
