Jan Siewert lasted just eight months in charge at Huddersfield Town
Huddersfield Town are currently searching for a new manager following the decision to part ways with Michael Duff in March.
The Terriers have endured a disappointing campaign back in League One, with the team looking unlikely to earn promotion straight back to the Championship.
The Yorkshire outfit will be hoping that the next manager will fare better, with the club setting their sights on achieving promotion from the third division in the near future.
With Duff’s sacking, Huddersfield have now gone through nine permanent managers since the club’s relegation from the Premier League under Jan Siewert in 2019.
Here we look at how Siewert is getting on ever since his departure from the club almost six years ago…
Siewert had previously worked as a coach at Rot-Weiss Essen, as well as at underage level with Vfl Bochum and Borussia Dortmund before taking on a role as David Wagner’s replacement at Huddersfield.
However, his time with the side came to an end after just eight months in charge, and it was over a year before he was back at the helm as a manager after his exit from the then Championship side.
The German took on the role as interim manager at Mainz, where he joined in July 2020, overseeing just one game before the arrival of Bo Svensson.
However, by November 2023, he was back in charge of the club, where Siewert initially took on a role as academy manager.
Following Svensson’s exit, the 42-year-old was placed in charge of the team on an interim basis for a second time.
The coach was quickly made Svensson’s permanent replacement, but he lasted just 12 games in charge before himself being sacked.
One win in that run led to his dismissal, ending his time at the German side on 12 February 2024.
Siewert found his next club in November last year, remaining in Germany to take over at Greuther Furth.
He has so far overseen 17 games for the second division team, with Siewert’s side currently fighting against relegation.
Huddersfield enjoyed great success by appointing Wagner as manager, hiring him from Borussia Dortmund’s underage team.
So the club followed in the same footsteps with the arrival of Siewert, who was in charge of Wagner’s former side when he was dismissed by the Terriers.
But Siewert was unable to reach the same heights as Wagner, with the team ultimately succumbing to relegation in 2019 after a dismal second campaign in the top flight.
The Yorkshire outfit finished bottom of the table, earning just 16 points from 38 games, 20 behind 17th place Brighton.
During the 19 games that he oversaw, Huddersfield won just once, with the manager departing in August 2019 after just three games back in the Championship.
Two defeats to Derby County and Fulham, as well as a draw with QPR, led to his swift dismissal.
