Coventry City clinched the Championship title with a 5-1 win against Portsmouth
Coventry City clinched the Championship title with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Portsmouth on Tuesday night.
Haji Wright opened the scoring for the Sky Blues at the CBS Arena, with a brace from Ephron Mason-Clark, a stoppage time strike from Kaine Kesler-Hayden and an own goal from Regan Poole securing all three points.
The victory has given the club an insurmountable lead at the top of the table with two games still to play.
Coventry will make their return to the Premier League for the first time since 2001, having lost in the play-offs in two of the previous three campaigns.
Planning will already be underway for life in the top flight, with a potentially busy summer ahead in the transfer window.
But players and staff will first want to celebrate the achievement of a remarkable campaign in which they’ve occupied a top two spot for the majority of the year.

Lampard has revealed that he is too old to go out and celebrate the title win with the squad, who he gave a couple of days off to after their 5-1 victory against Pompey.
He urged his players to enjoy the evening, suggesting that a night out was in the offing, but that he was happy to go home, warning that he wants them ready for the clash at home against Wrexham for a proper celebration in front of the fans with the trophy.
When asked his plans for celebrating the title on Tuesday night, he replied, via Talksport: “I’m going home.
"I'm a bit older and I prefer to keep my head down at times now.
“I would have gone out for three days back in the day.
"The lads can go out tonight, I've given them a couple of days off there and they deserve it, because all the work's in their legs through the season anyway and these are moments to enjoy.
"This doesn't happen that much, there's a lot of tough moments in football. People talk about my career and go, 'Oh, you won this and that.'
“I remember lots of seasons not getting what I wanted in lots of different ways.
"When you get it, enjoy it. The boys can enjoy it tonight.
"They need to be ready for Wrexham because we need a good account of ourselves in the last home game and we're hopefully going to get the cup after the game.
"They've been a great group, they're a really good bunch of lads, they'll go and have a drink tonight or whatever they want to do."
Lampard took charge of Coventry in November 2024, and he led the team to a fifth place finish in his first campaign in the dugout.
But a play-off semi-final defeat to Sunderland consigned the side to another year in the Championship.
Coventry have gone from strength to strength following that loss to the Black Cats, with the team earning 89 points from their 44 games so far, leaving them on course for a potential total of 95.
The gap to second place Millwall is now 10 points with just two fixtures remaining, while Ipswich Town in third are a further three behind, albeit with two matches in hand.
Next up for Coventry is a home clash against sixth place Wrexham on 26 April in a 12pm kick-off.
Coventry’s squad have done an excellent job this season, and the players have more than earned a couple of days off after the title victory.
Supporters will remember this campaign quite fondly, and the players have etched their names in as part of the club’s history.
Lampard knows a thing or two about how to celebrate a title win given he won three Premier League titles as a player, as well as a Champions League and numerous cup competitions.
The clash against Wrexham this weekend will be a great celebration for the club where they will get the chance to lift the Championship trophy in front of their own fans, which is a moment they thoroughly deserve.
