The Welshman has impressed since arriving from Huddersfield Town on loan last January, and he is the Latics’ top scorer in League One.

The 23-year-old has scored nine goals from 13 appearances in Leam Richardson’s side, with the team 19th in the table.

Taylor managed just four goals from 19 games for the Terriers in the third tier prior to his move in the winter market, but he has struck upon a sensational run of form at his new club.

The forward has a contract with Huddersfield until June 2029, but his current hot streak could make it difficult for the League One side to hold onto him beyond this summer.

It has already been exclusively revealed by FLW that Preston North End and Oxford United are monitoring Taylor, and they could now face stiff competition for his signature.

According to Football Insider, both Ipswich Town and Stoke City are tracking Taylor ahead of the summer transfer window.

It is expected that a number of clubs are set to show interest in the 23-year-old following his impressive performances for Wigan.

The two teams are set to send scouts to watch the Welshman this weekend when Wigan take on Reading.

But they are not the only two sides likely to send recruitment staff to cast their eyes on his performance, with interest in his services hotting up.

Ipswich are keen to bolster their forward options for next season, and they now see Taylor as a possible signing.

Kieran McKenna’s side are currently in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League, with the club just two points adrift of second place Middlesbrough and with a game in hand.

The Suffolk outfit are third, and have their sights set on immediately returning to the top flight after coming 19th in the table in the previous campaign.

Their league status could have an impact on the kind of transfer targets they pursue, while Stoke and Preston are both effectively locked into their mid-table positions.

Meanwhile, Oxford United are in the relegation zone and are one point adrift of 21st place Portsmouth with just seven games to go.

Taylor joined Huddersfield from Luton Town last summer, and it remains to be seen what kind of fee it could take to convince the Yorkshire outfit to cash in on the striker.

Joe Taylor transfer race is hotting up

Taylor has been sensational in front of goal since joining Wigan in the winter market, and it’s no surprise that his form has caught the attention of Championship sides.

The step back up to the second tier will be a tough test of the forward’s progress in the last few months, as his previous experience of the second tier was quite minimal.

He made 18 appearances for the Hatters at that level, starting just once, and he failed to score on a single occasion.

But he’s shown in the last few months that he’s grown as a player, and he may now be ready to make that leap again, with a number of clubs now circling.
