Anis Mehmeti's Bristol City contract will expire in 2026

Anis Mehmeti is not making a move to Middlesbrough from Bristol City this January.

According to Sky Sports (13.14), the links between the forward and the Teesside outfit are wide of the mark amid uncertainty over his future.

The 25-year-old has proven a key figure for the Robins since joining the club in the 2023 January transfer window.

He’s made 26 appearances so far this season for Gerhard Struber’s side, and has contributed eight goals and six assists amid their push for a play-off place.

However, the Albania international’s contract is set to expire in the summer, leaving the door open for his exit in 2026.

Anis Mehmeti’s Bristol City future

It’s believed that there is nothing in the links between Mehmeti and a potential move to Middlesbrough this January.

The Robins are understood to be in talks with the player to extend his contract beyond this June, as they look to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer.

Mehmeti made the switch to Ashton Gate three years ago, joining from Wycombe Wanderers after impressing in League One.

During his time with Bristol City, the 25-year-old has registered 25 goals and nine assists from 121 appearances in the Championship.

The forward was also crucial to the club earning a play-off place last season, scoring 12 under Liam Manning as the team earned a sixth place finish.

However, it remains to be seen whether terms can be agreed on an extension even if links with a move to Middlesbrough are reportedly wide of the mark.

Bristol City are currently 10th in the Championship table, two points adrift of the top six after 26 games played.

Mehmeti has started each of the club’s games in the league this season under Struber ahead of their trip to face Oxford United on 17 January in a 3pm kick-off.

Mehmeti has grown in importance to Bristol City in the last 18 months, and he is now crucial to Struber’s first team.

Losing him to someone like Middlesbrough would be a big blow to their promotion hopes for this season, so it’s a positive sign for supporters that this isn’t currently an option.

But his contract situation is still precarious at this stage, and a departure in the summer for nothing would be a big financial hit.
