Manchester City welcome Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen to the Etihad Stadium for Tuesday night’s Champions League showdown, looking to return to winning ways.

The Cityzens were dealt a massive blow over the weekend as their four-match winning streak was abruptly halted by a shocking 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United.

A brace from Harvey Barnes on either side of a Ruben Dias goal was enough to condemn Man City to their fourth Premier League defeat of the season.

Pep Guardiola will demand an immediate response from his Man City side, and the Champions League could be the perfect platform as they look to preserve their unbeaten start.

The Cityzens come into tonight’s showdown fourth in the League Phase ranking after picking up 10 points from their opening four games.

After making light work of Borussia Dortmund in their last European outing, Man City will be keen to inflict damage on another Bundesliga outfit and extend their streak to three consecutive wins.

How Man City could line up

Guardiola is expected to refresh his squad for tonight’s encounter against Leverkusen and could make as many as five changes to the side that lost against Newcastle.

That reshuffle will likely start in defence with Gianluigi Donnarumma maintaining his place between the posts despite keeping just one clean sheet across his last five outings.

Rayan Ait-Nouri will likely come in for Nico O’Reilly at left back while Matheus Nunes retains his place at right back.

Dias could be rested as John Stones steps in to partner Josko Gvardiol at centre-back.

With Rodri and Mateo Kovacic sidelined, Nico Gonzalez could be rested in favour of Tijjani Reijnders, who hasn’t started a game for Man City since the 4-1 win against Dortmund.

Savinho should come in for Bernardo Silva further up the pitch.

Omar Marmoush will also be pushing for his first Champions League start, especially against Bundesliga opposition, and could be joined by Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku.

Erling Braut Haaland missed a few chances against Newcastle but has scored in each of his last five Champions League outings and should also reprise his role at the top end of the pitch.
