The Saints caused one of this season's most memorable cup shocks when they defeated Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal at St Mary's Stadium in the quarter-finals, having already edged past Fulham to progress that far.

Goals from Ross Stewart and Shea Charles secured a 2-1 win over the Gunners on 4 April, to send Tonda Eckert's men through to Wembley.

Southampton subsequently bolstered their automatic promotion chances by earning successive Championship victories over Wrexham, Derby County, and Blackburn Rovers.

The Saints have not tasted defeat since the middle of the January and are intensifying their efforts to pip Ipswich Town in the race for automatic promotion back to the Premier League, with an upcoming trip to Wembley for the first time since defeating Leeds United in the 2024 Championship play-off final simply adding to the excitement on the south coast right now.

Tonda Eckert's men will have to defy the odds once again on 25 April to make it through to the FA Cup final, as semi-final opponents Man City are hoping to beat Arsenal to the Premier League title.

Furthermore, Pep Guardiola's men demonstrated their unrelenting appetite for silverware when they beat the Gunners 2-0 in last month's EFL Cup final.

Man City know that they are the heavy favourites to beat Southampton at Wembley, but Eckert's men will not make it easy for them, having already knocked out Premier League opponents Fulham and Arsenal.

The Saints have confirmed via their club website that fewer than 2,500 tickets remain available to Saints supporters for their FA Cup semi-final, following the launch of their membership windows.

Southampton have advised that tickets are being sold at one per supporter number, but 20 tickets can be purchased in one transaction, as long as all supporter numbers qualify.

As reported by the Southern Daily Echo, the Saints' ticket allocation is 33,350, while the Hampshire club have confirmed that they may receive further tickets from the FA.

Southampton supporters are being housed at the same end of Wembley they were given for their last visit to the national stadium, when they beat Leeds United 1-0 in the 2024 Championship play-off final.

Unfortunately for the St Mary's Stadium outfit, their play-off triumph was followed by a woeful Premier League campaign in which they were relegated.

However, their current season is set to include at least one Wembley visit, and could result in an immediate top-flight return.

Southampton have a tough job juggling FA Cup run with Championship promotion battle

Southampton extended their impressive winning run to seven games across all competitions when they beat Blackburn 3-0 on 14 April.

The Saints' triumph on home soil over the Lancashire club has given them a serious chance of beating Ipswich Town, Millwall, and Middlesbrough to automatic promotion to next season's Premier League, alongside Championship league leaders Coventry City.

Meanwhile, Eckert's men have provided their supporters with valuable memories by beating both Fulham and Arsenal in their eye-catching FA Cup run.

However, their primary goal is to seal an immediate Premier League return, either via the play-offs, or by landing a top-two spot in the Championship.

Eckert already deserves great credit for steering the Saints from the lower echelons of the second-tier table to the thick of the promotion battle, regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season.

There is no doubt, though, that the fact their clash with fellow top-two chasers Ipswich lands just three days after their FA Cup semi-final is a difficult scenario to navigate.
