Daniel Farke's future at Leeds United remains the subject of intense speculation
Daniel Farke’s future at Leeds United has become the subject of intense speculation despite the club’s promotion success.
The German has spent two seasons in charge at Elland Road, and guided the team to a top two spot in the Championship this year.
The Whites will make their return to the Premier League at the second attempt, after losing the play-off final to Southampton in 2024.
Farke has previously led Norwich to two other promotions to the top flight, and has a proven track record in the second tier, but struggled with the Canaries in the division on both occasions, leading to his departure in November 2021.
Here we take a look at how much it would cost Leeds to remove Farke from the club, if he is to leave this summer…
Farke signed a four year contract when he joined Leeds in the summer of 2023, which he is now halfway through.
However, the club are considering his future with two years still remaining on his existing deal.
According to the Guardian, chairman Paraag Marathe is set for talks with the coach on Monday prior to their clash against Bristol City.
It is understood that Farke would be owed one years’ worth of salary should he be dismissed.
It is uncertain just how much this amounts to, but it is likely to be a hefty sum given Leeds still have to take into consideration their profit and sustainability as part of the league’s financial rules.
It has been claimed that owners 49ers Enterprises have doubts over whether Farke is a suitable person to lead the Yorkshire outfit into the Premier League.
It’s been reported that the likes of Davide Ancelotti, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Roger Schmidt are all under consideration should a change in manager be made.
Another name linked to the role include Cesc Fabregas, via TBR Football, who is currently in charge at Italian side Como in Serie A.
The 48-year-old previously led Norwich to relegation from the top flight in 2020, and the team were again struggling in the division prior to his exit midway through the 2021/22 campaign.
Farke has enjoyed a lot of success since taking over at Leeds, winning 59 of his 102 matches in charge so far.
The Whites finished third in the Championship in his first campaign as manager, missing out on automatic promotion by just six points.
A play-off final loss to Southampton consigned the club to another year in the second division.
However, Farke’s side responded to that setback by coming back stronger in the following season, with the team now officially returning to the top flight.
Leeds earned their top two position with two games to spare, with the team also being the top scorer in the division, scoring over 20 times more than the next best.
The club can still win the Championship title, but will have to overcome Scott Parker’s Burnley side to secure top spot in the table, with the season set to conclude on 3 May.
