Teemu Pukki will undoubtedly go down as one of Norwich City’s best-ever strikers.

He signed for the Canaries in 2018 from Danish side Brondby on a free transfer, having spent time with Celtic and Schalke previously.

But his best years would undoubtedly be with Norwich, who he appeared over 210 times for, netting 88 goals for the club.

Estimates from Capology suggest that Pukki started his life at Carrow Road on £6k per week, which dropped marginally in his second year to £5,962, before rocketing to £25k per week in his last three years at the club.

The website therefore calculates that he earned around £300k in his first two years, before that was upped to £1.3m for the final three years.

Adding those yearly totals together suggests that Norwich paid Pukki just over £4.5m across his five seasons at the club.

That is without factoring in any bonus payments, commercial image rights or signing-on bonuses, but considering the club paid nothing to bring him in originally, and taking into account what he provided for the club, it feels like Norwich got a bargain.

Shocking fact about Pukki’s Norwich wage

What may shock some Canaries fans is that in Pukki’s final season at the club, when all knew exactly what he provided and what he’d already done for Norwich, there were still four players at Carrow Road earning more than him, according to Capology estimates.

Often clubs will have their primary frontman as the highest earner at the club, but in the 2022/23 season, Capology states that Sam Byram, Marquinhos and Grant Hanley were all on £30k per week — £5k more than Pukki’s wage — with Ben Gibson the highest earner on a considerable £40k per week.

Pukki certainly won’t go short, but he might feel somewhat shortchanged given how vital he was to Norwich throughout this time.

The Canaries may never bag a bargain like that again.

Pukki’s importance to Norwich cannot be understated

At Carrow Road, Pukki will always feature highly in any conversation about the best-ever striker to grace the pitch.

In his first season, he notched 29 goals and provided 9 assists in the Championship, spearheading the club to the Premier League.

He hit double figures in the top tier, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Canaries up.

The story then repeated. He netted 26 goals and four assists in the Championship in 2020/21, earning another shot at the Premier League, where he again hit double figures but couldn’t keep the club up.

Teams who are bouncing around the top end of the Championship dream of a shot at the elite division, even if it’s just a one-season tour. Pukki provided that twice and, judging by the estimates provided by Capology, he didn’t even ask for that much in return.

In every aspect, Pukki will go down as a legend with Norwich fans.
