Southampton are set to sign Daniel Peretz on a permanent deal from German giants, Bayern Munich, but how much are the Saints paying?

Southampton will be looking to bounce back from a hugely disappointing conclusion to their 2025/26 league campaign, with the spygate saga bringing an end to their promotion hopes.

The Saints were the form team heading into the Championship play-offs, and they were set for a trip to Wembley, after beating Middlesbrough over two legs in their semi-final.

However, that result was overturned, as Southampton were found guilty of spying on Middlesbrough's training sessions in the lead up to that semi-final.

Middlesbrough contested the Championship play-off final with Hull City, and it was the Tigers that booked their spot in the Premier League next season.

Southampton's players and supporters have every reason to feel aggrieved with the club's actions, which have ultimately cost them a chance of winning promotion back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Saints will now turn their attentions to the summer transfer window, as Tonda Eckert plans to build a squad capable of pushing ahead in their promotion efforts.

Daniel Peretz looks as though he'll be the first permanent signing to arrive at St Mary's this summer, with the goalkeeper previously being on loan from German giants, Bayern Munich.

Peretz caught the eye for all the right reasons with the Saints, making 26 appearances in all competitions for Tonda Eckert's side. The shot-stopper is still only 25, and so he'll have his best years ahead of him.

It's recently been revealed by Sky reporter, Florian Plettenberg that Southampton are set to pay €7.5-8m to sign Peretz permanently, which is a sizeable fee for a Championship club.

The report also claims that an agreement was reached due to Peretz's 'excellent relationship' with the Southampton manager, and that an official announcement confirming the deal is set to come soon.

Peretz's permanent arrival will have been a no-brainer for Southampton

Southampton certainly needed to add a goalkeeper to their squad on a permanent basis this summer, and with Peretz impressing during his loan spell with the club, Tonda Eckert will have been keen to secure an agreement at the earliest of opportunities during this transfer window.

The Saints had the likes of George Long and Alex McCarthy on their books during the 2025/26 season as backup to Peretz, but with Long's loan set to expire, it's a no-brainer for Southampton to pursue a permanent deal for Peretz.

Alex McCarthy's contract with the club is set to expire this summer, and at the age of 36, it seems unlikely that he'll be offered a new contract to extend his stay at St Mary's.

It'll be pleasing for Peretz to sign a permanent contract somewhere as well, as he spent last year out on loan with the Saints and German side, Hamburger SV.

The shot-stopper has made four appearances for Bayern Munich's first-team, but he was never going to feature regularly for them, and so a move elsewhere seems the ideal move for all parties involved.
